When we think of diversity, we think of differences, differences involving age, race, gender, religion, culture, etc. People who have grown up in different countries or even different areas within a single country all come from a different background with different life experiences and different beliefs. Unfortunately, with a diverse workforce also comes discrimination, whether it be intentional or unintentional. More often than not, discrimination stems from managers not knowing or understanding laws and proper procedures for handling certain situations. Managers may not intend to discriminate, but it is very important that they know what they should and shouldn't do in particular situations, and it is up to human resource managers to make sure people are trained properly in this area.

Having different types of people working has been shown to produce better results. People from different backgrounds, cultures, genders, or age groups may be better at certain things than others because of their own life experiences. For example, a younger person may be more efficient and have more understanding of a position that makes use of a lot of technology, especially if the technology is always changing and evolving. It doesn't mean that the older person isn't a good worker or have strenghts of their own, but it simply means that it is important for managers to be able to identify strengths and weaknesses of each individual person and build off from it.
