Because of all of the recent political uproar surrounding diversity, many CEOs at several large companies are doing all they can do to reassure their employees that they support and will continue to support workplace diversity. Many of these anxieties have been caused by the recent brutal presidential election and comments that were made surrounding it.
Many companies have received hundreds of emails from their employees who are concerned about diversity, raising thoughts and concerns that they have about current issues. Karyn Twaronite from a consulting and accounting firm said “I’m actually hopeful, because there is so much dialog. We’ve been able to have conversations about subjects people never talked about before, like racism and sexism.”. CEOs are doing their best to ease fears and frustrations, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, who stated “Apple will welcome everyone, regardless of what they look like, where they come from, how they warship, and who they love.”.
These reassurances couldn’t come at a better time as newly elected president trump announces that he will name a new head of the EEOC. The best thing one can do at this point is remember back from the beginning all the benefits of diversity, not just for a business, but for our social lives as well.
